Yiru Wang (Susan)

About Me

Hi! I’m Yiru Wang (王逸如). You can call me Susan (a name I have used since kindergarten). I am currently a PhD student in Management at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Before joining Wharton, I was a research assistant at the Strategy & Entrepreneurship Department at London Business School, where I also earned a Master’s in Management. I hold a bachelor’s degree in management, focus in finance, from the University of Toronto’s Rotman Commerce. My research interests primarily focus on organization design and entrepreneurship, with an additional interest in labor market-related topics.

Before deciding to pursue a PhD in Management, I gained professional experience as a core member of an edu-tech start-up for two years and completed a product management internship at Alibaba. I was also a part-time journalist, having written high-impact articles with a wide readership.

In my spare time, I enjoy watching movies 🎦 (my favorite genres are historical, biographical, and science fiction), listening to music 🎵 (I even made a music album myself in high school!), and playing computer games 🎮(I love grand strategy, historical, and war-themed games—and I was a game streamer in college). I’m also a passionate traveler and a devoted foodie!

My journey has taken me across the world. Born and raised in Shanghai, China, I completed my undergraduate studies in Toronto, Canada, including exchange semesters in Hong Kong SAR and Seoul, South Korea. I then spent nearly three years in London, United Kingdom, where I earned my master’s degree and worked as a research assistant. Now, I am about to embark on my PhD studies in Philadelphia, United States.
